Black & White Engineering has announced strategic appointments as part of its plans for expansion and innovation. Charlie Bater has been appointed as Chief Technical Officer, and Paul Cook as Global Director of Technology & Innovation. These appointments are intended to support the business’s scaling efforts across international markets, with a focus on more integrated, data-focused approaches in the data centre domain.

The firm now operates in 24 locations worldwide and has a team of more than 1,000 employees. This expansion reflects growing demand for data-centric approaches in the delivery of data centre projects and other critical infrastructure work. The sector is evolving, with increasing requirements for integrated solutions across both design and operational phases.

Charlie Bater assumes the newly created CTO role, reflecting Black & White’s focus on developing internal technical leadership. He joined the company eight years ago as Global Datacentre Director and has contributed to regional growth and the development of technical standards. The creation of the CTO position supports the ongoing development of engineering capability and innovation across global teams.

In his new role, Paul Cook will work closely with Charlie, bringing experience across critical infrastructure and hyperscale data centres. He will support the development of a structured approach to technology aligned with engineering expertise, with the aim of improving project performance from inception through to completion. He previously worked at Yondr Group and brings experience in technology and R&D innovation.

The strengthening of Black & White’s Global Engineering Team (GET) is central to these appointments. This team supports consistency and efficiency across projects in different regions. The appointments of Charlie and Paul form part of the company’s wider focus on technical development and delivery.

Black & White’s expansion continues to be focused on technical capability and innovation, with the aim of delivering solutions aligned with global client requirements.
