Rackspace hires Brian Stein as Vice President of Global Engineering

Stein has more than 15 years of experience in open source development, user experience, quality engineering and assurance, release engineering and project management.

Prior to Rackspace, he served as senior vice president of engineering at Puppet Labs, where he helped drive Puppet’s offerings into an enterprise-class platform. At Puppet Labs, Stein led the movement towards configuration-as-code, which has helped form the foundation of the modern DevOps movement.

Prior to Puppet Labs, Stein was vice president of engineering at Red Hat. His responsibilities included engineering leadership for the company’s virtualisation, management and security offerings, including OpenStack, kvm and Xen. He was a key leader in the company’s transformation to cloud infrastructure, and created and led one of the largest OpenStack engineering teams in the industry.

“Brian’s unique experience delivering industry-changing infrastructure, automation and management platforms will help extend Rackspace’s leadership in the multi-cloud world,” said Scott Crenshaw, senior vice president of strategy and products at Rackspace. “Brian brings expertise, an innovation track record and open source community development capabilities that will enable us to better simplify the complexity of using diverse cloud platforms.”

“I’m thrilled to join Rackspace to help build the future of the multi-cloud world,” said Stein. “As organisations continue their adoption of cloud, they will need the complexity removed. Rackspace’s ability to bring expertise in scale to OpenStack and other leading technologies is making it easier for enterprises to adopt cloud by consuming infrastructure as a managed service.”

Stein holds a master’s degree in computer science from The State University of New York Binghamton in Vestal, NY.
