Tech Mahindra and Telefónica Germany extend partnership to develop private cloud platform

The collaboration will focus on building a scalable, cloud-native digital infrastructure to support platform-as-a-service (PaaS) development, AI-enabled workloads, and telecom infrastructure modernisation.

Tech Mahindra has announced an extension of its partnership with Telefónica Germany to develop a next-generation private cloud platform. The collaboration aims to support cloud-native transformation and advance platform-as-a-service (PaaS) initiatives intended to support broader technological and business development.

A central element of the multi-year agreement is the development of a scalable, open digital infrastructure. This combines Tech Mahindra’s platform engineering capabilities with Telefónica Germany’s telecom transformation objectives to create a framework for enterprise digital infrastructure. The planned environment includes components such as compute, storage, backup, container services, GPUs, and ransomware protection capabilities.

The platform is intended to provide Telefónica Germany with a cloud environment designed to support cloud-native operations and application development, including workloads involving artificial intelligence. It is also positioned to support longer-term infrastructure changes and reduce reliance on proprietary virtualisation technologies, with a focus on increased infrastructure autonomy.

The collaboration is additionally expected to support Telefónica Germany’s B2B service development through a more unified PaaS approach.

The transformation approach includes elements such as AI-assisted automation, cloud-native orchestration, infrastructure-as-code practices, and self-service platform management. These are intended to support operational management and accommodate both existing and modern telecom infrastructure requirements.

More broadly, the partnership aligns with Tech Mahindra’s work with telecom operators in Europe and focuses on managed services and infrastructure modernisation. The platform is expected to support future AI-enabled digital services and evolving enterprise and B2B workloads, with an emphasis on operational efficiency and infrastructure control for Telefónica Germany.
