Aggreko ups investment to meet data centre cooling demands

Aggreko invests in liquid-cooled load banks as AI and high-performance computing reshape data centre needs, fostering energy-efficient solutions.

Global energy solutions giant Aggreko has announced a significant investment in its liquid-cooled load bank (LCLB) fleet. This decision responds to the increasing global demand for advanced data centre commissioning solutions, especially in light of the AI and high-performance computing (HPC) boom.

Aggreko has expanded its LCLB capacity by adding 120 MW in 2025, with plans to double this by 2026. This expansion underscores the company's commitment to providing reliable commissioning services globally, focusing on liquid-to-liquid testing solutions.

Data centres are evolving as AI and HPC raise power densities dramatically. Traditional cooling methods are no longer viable, necessitating a shift to liquid cooling, which offers enhanced heat removal and efficiency. However, effective testing is essential to ensure these sophisticated systems operate optimally.

With its LCLBs, Aggreko offers the capability to conduct comprehensive testing of liquid cooling systems. This includes validating the performance of various components under diverse conditions, as well as simulating electrical loads during an Integrated Systems Testing (IST) phase.

A key advantage of Aggreko’s liquid-cooled load banks is their ability to replicate intense IT equipment heat loads, reducing operational risks, and enhancing Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE). Their corrosion-resistant materials, advanced controls, and remote operating functionalities ensure safety and reliability.

Aggreko offers a full-service commissioning partnership, going beyond mere equipment delivery. Their approach involves working closely with clients to craft tailored solutions, addressing specific infrastructure needs, challenges, and goals. Through this, Aggreko ensures the long-term reliability necessary for critical data centre operations.

This strategic investment places Aggreko as a key global partner in commissioning high-density AI and HPC data centres. By expanding its fleet, Aggreko aligns its capabilities with the surge in market demand, aiding customers in timely deliveries and supporting the shift toward sustainable data centre operations.
