Westcon-Comstor, a renowned technology distributor, has announced commendable progress in its sustainability initiatives, primarily focused on reducing carbon emissions and prioritising renewable energy.

The company’s recent Responsible Business report highlights a major milestone in their renewable energy journey. Currently, 50% of Westcon-Comstor's global electricity consumption comes from renewable sources, a significant improvement from the previous year's 42%. Notably, operations in countries like the UK, Australia, and New Zealand have fully transitioned to renewable energy.

Efforts to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions have borne fruit, with respective reductions of 8% and 29% from last year. Since FY22, the company has achieved a 24% total reduction, edging ever closer to their 2030 goal of cutting emissions by half.

In 2023, Westcon-Comstor's sustainability targets received validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), making it the first major technology distributor globally to receive such recognition. Meeting these targets was bolstered by ensuring 80% of its supply chain partners set science-based emission reduction goals, a target the company successfully achieved on time.

The report also delves into Westcon-Comstor's strategic areas: people, planet, and communities during FY25. Additionally, the company aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and utilised a methodology guided by the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) for its materiality assessments.

Progress in Scope 3 emission calculations was another area of focus. A broader range of supplier-specific data led to a 10% increase in Scope 3 emissions compared to FY24. However, plans to collaborate with vendors and partners in the IT channel are underway to tackle these emissions effectively.

As summed up by Kevin Brzezinski, Chief Sustainability Officer, "Our latest Responsible Business report shows that we're making real progress in cutting Scope 1 and 2 emissions and expanding our use of renewables. Challenges remain, but we're committed to leading by example and reducing our carbon footprint across operations and supply chains as we collaborate with partners and vendors to drive sustainability across the IT channel."
