Ilmarinen develops insurance services of the future with Tieto

Finnish earnings-related pension insurance company Ilmarinen has selected Tieto as partner in renewing the insurance processes and developing digital services for its business clients. By doing so, Ilmarinen can offer new device-independent digital services to its business clients with enhanced customer experience.

The general progress of digitalisation in Finland - including the upcoming income register, which will offer up-to-date income details - will give pension companies better possibilities to offer more up-to-date digital services. In a new project called “Vakuuta vaivattomasti” (Insure with ease), Tieto will develop new types of agile digital services to make things easier for Ilmarinen’s business clients. The insurance processes, as well as the systems supporting them, will be renewed to achieve increased efficiency and speed.
Ilmarinen aims to be the most attractive choice when it comes to earnings-related pension insurance by offering the best customer experience through high-quality services and easy transactions. “We work in an increasingly real-time environment, so we want to develop new and innovative services for our clients. It is not enough to just offer some services in digital form. We need systematic changes in the underlying systems we use. We chose Tieto as our partner because it has strong knowhow in the insurance field and a proven track-record of fast and agile delivery,” says Sini Kivihuhta, Chief Operating Officer at Ilmarinen.
“The insurance industry needs to be able to react fast to the changes brought on by digitalisation in the operating environment. Core systems need to be modernised so that they will support new digital processes and services. It takes courage to change traditional processes, for example through automatization. We are excited to be a part of the development of new agile digital services for the largest earnings-related pension company in Finland, says Christian Segersven, Executive Vice President, Tieto Financial Services.
The renewal process started in the spring of 2017 and the results have already showed good progress for mobile transactions and increased automation. When Ilmarinen merged with Etera in January, the goals of the project were redefined and the development partnership with Tieto was reconfirmed. The project will mainly be carried out during 2018 and 2019.
